Welcome To The New System [4th March 2003]
The new system is now in operation. All the old accounts have been transferred to the new system. If you're account hasn't been transferred, it means your account was unfortunately too fragmented to be recovered successfully. We would like to invite you to sign up to a new far improved StatCounter system now. If you're account has been transferred successfully, we would still like to ask you to update your info, to make sure all your details are correct. The new StatCounter system will never 'lose' your member information or summary totals again, as they are being backed up on a completely separate server every 24 hours. This simply wasn't possible to do on the old system, but very easy to do on the new system.
Our top priority was to get the new system up and running as soon as possible, so we could let old StatCounter members who lost their accounts sign up again. To achieve this, we have launched with the bare minimal of stats, but we'll be adding to this through the next week. Most likely, the best feature of the new system will be to see the trend of the number of unique hits and page loads in graph form your site has received each day for the last 60 days.
We focused on the features of the old service that the majority of members loved the most, and tried to make them better. The big fault of the old system, and a lot of sites out there, is the staleness of the data being represented. If you're counter has been tracking for years, the data becomes nearly meaningless. How could you spot any recent trends? So the statistics will be based on the most recent sample space to your account. This will give you a very accurate snap-shot of your sites' visitors.
We had to cut back in terms of the Counter Styles being offered. We have made it totally configurable though, you can choose between 5 different fonts and specify the background and foreground colour exactly, you'll be able to make it blend nicely with your site this way. And of course the invisible option is still available. We'll be looking at this again in the future, to see if there is any way to get back the custom digits that we used to allow.
Enjoy the new system, but it's still being developed, try not to judge it too critically until all the new features have been added.
